Mrs. Geraldine Gerrie Louise Hildebrand Childs

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Geraldine (Gerrie) Louise Hildebrand Childs. She fought a courageous battle against renal cell carcinoma. She passed away on November 28, 2011 with the blessings of her family.

Gerrie was born on May 9, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Evelyn and Calvin Hildebrand. She was the third of four children. She graduated from South High School on June 4, 1956 and on June 8, 1956 married Vernon James Childs, who was the love of her life; later sealed together for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1971. Together they had 4 children. She retired from Edo Western Corporation in 2000 after 33 years of service.

She lived most of her married life in Salt Lake City. In 2009, they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Utah, where they planned to live in the quiet rural area and wake up each morning to the beauty of the wildlife native to the area. However, the Lord called her home sooner than anyone thought.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Lester Lee Hildebrand. Survived by her husband; brothers, James Laverne and William Clyde Hildebrand; children, Vernon (Jim) James, Jr. and his wife Karen, Sheryl Lynn Childs Redwine, Jeffrey Scott and his special friend, Linda Reese and Gregory Alan and his wife Cris ; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p. m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
