Gayle was born on January 18, 1925 in Garfield, Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School before enlisting with the United States Navy and served in World War II. After his Navy career ended, he continued his education at Brigham Young University where he played football for the Cougars and graduated in 1949. He married his first love, Mary Dean Gilbert in 1945 and had 4 children. They were married for 32 years before Mary Dean passed away in 1980.
He started his business career and ended up retiring from Hercules Aerospace after 29 years of service. It was during his career at Hercules when he met his 2nd love, Gloria Jean Bateman. They married in 1982 and, also had 32 wonderful years together before Gloria passed away in 2013.
Gayle loved hunting and fly fishing with his sons. He loved watching and playing golf and one of his fondest memories was attending the 2009 Players Golf Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. He and his sweetheart, Gloria, were able to travel throughout Europe. They also enjoyed many cruises including his favorite to Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernal Roy and Lenore Jensen Holt, both wives, son’s Douglas Holt, Jack Holt and a grandson Chad Holt.
He is survived by son Lynn (Sue) Holt, daughter Janet Layton, stepson Dirk (Karin) Parker, stepdaughters Tiffany (Mark) Allen and Angela Anderson, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Calame, Harmony Home Health and Hospice and the Veteran’s Hospital Administration for all the care they have provided over the years.
