Gary Robert Love (age 60) passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on April 16, 2022 after a hard fought, five and a half year battle, with Multiple Myeloma. Born February 27, 1962 in Salt Lake City, he was the first child of Robert “J” and ClareAnn DeYoung Love.
Gary grew up in West Valley City, attending local schools and graduating from Granger High School in 1980. Gary was a very hard worker. He could be counted on to always do his best job and help others. As a boy he worked alongside his grandfather on the family farm and became his right-hand man while attending Utah Technical College (now UVU.) During college he also worked at Kohler’s Grocery Store in Lehi and made connections that led him to his lifelong career with Oakdell Egg Farms. He eventually transferred to their Pasco, Washington facility, making his home nearby Kennewick, Washington where he found his “happy place”. At the time of his death, Gary was the Assistant Plant Manager for the Pasco facility, having been with the company just one day short of 25 years.
Gary held a lifelong love of locomotives and trains and anything related to them. He adopted model railroading as his main hobby and especially loved anything having to do with the Rio Grande Railroad. He had many “train friends” but enjoyed spending time with Bill Schultz and his family the most. Gary loved good food and enjoyed cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. He had a fun sense of humor and enjoyed pranks with his nephew Daniel, and laughing with his friends, coworkers, and family.
Throughout his battle with cancer, he remained upbeat and his attitude to the end was “I want to fight until I can’t fight no more!” We are all so proud of him and inspired by his determination and perseverance during his illness. Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, his nephew, Taren Dennis, and his grand-niece, Quinn Fuller. He will be well remembered and is survived by his mother ClareAnn Love, brother Jay (Kathy) Love, and sisters Barbara (Phil) Pool, Elizabeth Love, and Anissa Love. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces, as well as grand nephews and nieces and his favorite aunt, Jaydene (Jack) Baily.
A viewing for friends and family will be held at Valley View Funeral Home (4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah) on Thursday evening, April 21st, from 6 to 8 p.m. and then one hour prior to funeral services on Friday, April 22nd at Valley View Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park immediately following the service.
The family wishes to thank all his caregivers and providers at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Trios Health and Trios Hospital in Kennewick, Washington and his Oakdell Egg Farm family for their care, unending love, and support.
