The oldest of two children, Glen was born June 20, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Glenn Elton Openshaw and Elta Soret Openshaw. He married Helen Marie DeVore on July 8, 1955. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage. They raised five children together.
Glen was a talented self-taught mechanic who retired from the University of Utah motor pool after 18 years of service. He raced stock cars at the Utah State Fairgrounds. He could build or fix anything. He also loved reading, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and collecting cameras. Together, Glen and Helen enjoyed traveling across the US on their BMW motorcycle with trailer in tow. Some of their destinations included Alaska, Florida, Canada and Mexico. For over 50 years, they belonged to a Dinner Club with friends they had met while living in the Cannon Ward.
Survived by his wife; Helen, children; June Openshaw (Steve Meyer), Janet Openshaw Ramon (companion Jody Areia), John Openshaw (Susan), Jay De Openshaw, Janice Openshaw Ward (Shawn); 15 grandchildren: Ryan, Kate, Lisa, Chris, James, Jenny, Morgan, Madison, Justin, Zachary, Kirsten, Sarah, Adam, Michael, Benjamin; great-grandson, Oliver, brother; Gary Openshaw (Myrna). Preceded in death by his parents.
Cremated and no funeral services at his request. R.I.P. Daddy
