SEPTEMBER 29, 1937 – JUNE 29, 2012
At the age of 74, Mom ended her fight with Alzheimer’s Disease and returned home to live with her Heavenly Father, Son, Parents, Brothers, Aunts, Uncles and Friends.
Mom was born September 29, 1937 to N. Lowell and Esther Mae Baxter Petersen. She attended Hinckley High and graduated from Delta High. She then attended Brigham Young University where she later graduated with a degree in elementary education.
Married L. Kent Schlappi, divorced and later married Larry Athe Meeks.
Mom taught for Granite School District at Pioneer Elementary. She was a dedicated teacher and genuinely loved her students. She retired after 30 years of teaching.
Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in several positions such as Cub Scout Den Mother, Extraction specialist, Visiting Teacher and served a mission at the Jordan River Temple.
Mom enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, camping and playing card games with her friends. She also enjoyed BYU basketball, football and the Utah Jazz. Her greatest love in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom is survived by her husband Larry Meeks, children: Kennie Schlappi (Rick Banning), Russell (Dona) Schlappi, Jerry (KoNae) Schlappi; step children: Terry (Vicki) Meeks, Linda (Mat) Tangitau, Randy (Kenna) Meeks, Kevin (Rhonda) Meeks, Shawn (Stephanie) Meeks; sister: Mae Jean (Gerald) Damron; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren
Mom was preceded in death by her Father: N Lowell Petersen, Mother: Esther Mae Baxter Petersen, Brother: Nels Lowell Petersen, Brother: Patton Ward Petersen, and Son: David L. Schlappi; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The viewing will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home; 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at the Hunter 3rd Ward; located at 3737 S 5600 W. at 12:00 noon. With viewing one hour prior to services.
Internment: Valley View Memorial Park; 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah.
