Donna Belle Heywood Nielson, 94, passed away December 11, 2015, in South Jordan Utah. She was born May 30, 1921 in Riverdale, Utah, to Robert Levi Heywood and Afton Leticia Child. She married Arvle L. Nielson on September 20, 1946.
Donna lived a long and full life. She worked at Hill Airforce Base during World War II. After her family was grown, she owned and operated The Plush Brush, a beauty salon. She also worked as an aide at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and later cared for disabled veterans.
She was a faithful Latter-day Saint serving in many callings, including Relief Society President and Gospel Doctrine teacher. As a young woman, she served in the Eastern States Mission. She and Arvle served missions at the John Johnson home in Hiram, Ohio, the temple visitor’s center in New Zealand, and the Bern, Switzerland Temple, moving to the Frankfort, Germany Temple.
She is survived by her children; Ken (Kaye), Philip (Shirley), Lark (David), Gary (Carla), Glenn (Christina), Bryant (Diane), and Tamara (David), 26 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and her sister; Roberta Mathias.
A viewing will be held for the family and friends on Wednesday, December 16 at Valley View Memorial, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17 at the Hunter 2nd Ward Chapel, 3970 South 5200 West, West Valley City with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
