Donald was a staff sergeant with the United States Army. He graduated 2nd in his class in Army Intelligence and served for twenty-one years as a system operator/ mechanic for tactical communications and a radio and telephone/teletype operator.
He received many decorations and awards such as the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC, RVN Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal With 2 Service Stars, Two Overseas Service Bars, and Meritorious Service Medal 1st OLC. Following his service, he ran a successful programming business from home until he retired.
He was an avid sports fan especially of the Utah Jazz, the Kansas City Royals, and the Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, table puzzles and watching Jeopardy. When he would watch he knew the majority of the answers. He loved reading, especially comic strips; his favorites included Beetle Bailey, The Peanuts, and especially Garfield. Spending time with the boys drinking coffee and beer, and camping were among his best and most memorable times.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Toshiko, their children Michi (Tomoharu), Donald Jr. (BIllie), Steven (Teri), Susan, and Margaret (Ken), 12 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren.
