Dixie was born on September 4, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family moved to Salmon when she was a little girl. Her favorite memories were the camping trips with her parents and sisters and float excursions on the Salmon River. She loved fresh caught salmon and spent many years trying to find salmon in restaurants that tasted like that but was always disappointed.
She graduated from Salmon High School in 1969. She continued her education at Idaho State University as an elementary education major receiving her degree in 1973. After getting her elementary education certification from Westminster College in Salt Lake City she began as a substitute teacher. She was happy to get a full-time teaching job at Jackling Elementary never realizing that she would be there for 25 years. It was a wonderful 25 years and she got to teach both third and sixth graders. Being able to teach sixth graders about ancient Greece was a dream come true for her. The third graders were the ones though that ran up to her and threw their arms around her and said, “we love you Mrs. West.” That will warm a teacher's heart.
Dixie made friends easily but more importantly those friendships with Barb, Joy, Hope, Erlene and Mary have lasted for many years. She was a good and loyal friend, and she will be greatly missed by them.
She passed peacefully in her sleep with her husband at her side on June 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard West and LaRae Adamson West, her sisters Suzanne and Leeanne, her father-in-law Harold Goodro, her mother-in-law Helen Goodro and her beloved daughter Sarah Caitlin (Katie) West-Goodro.
She is survived by her husband Jon Goodro, her son Ian West-Goodro, daughter in law Ally West-Goodro and niece Amanda West-Robinson.
