Born in Seoul, South Korea to Douglas DeJong and Son Cha (Cho) DeJong, David grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. From an early age, he lived life with energy and heart - playing baseball, exploring the outdoors, and laying the foundation for the man he would become.
David earned a two-year technical degree, but his expertise came from something deeper: an unrelenting drive to learn, build, and lead. Through dedication and hands-on problem-solving, he rose to become Salt Lake City’s foremost expert in HVAC automation and controls. A cornerstone of the ATC Contractors team since 1993, David spent more than three decades setting the standard in controls and automation - leading with skill and a willingness to share his knowledge with anyone.
David lived with a spirit of adventure that could not be contained. He traveled the world, lit up every room he entered, and made friends wherever he went. His sense of humor was infectious, his smile unforgettable. Always ready to try something new, he brought laughter, energy, and authenticity to every gathering. A Denver Broncos fan, avid camper, and man who loved grilling out with friends, his truest joy was time spent with his daughters.
His loyalty and generosity to family and friends ran deep. Whether you knew him for a lifetime or met him in passing, you knew David would show up - for advice, for help, for a laugh, for whatever was needed.
David is survived by his daughters, Ava and Paige, who were the center of his world; his parents, Doug and Son Cha DeJong; and his sister, Laura DeJong, her husband Christopher Cooper and their two children.
David will be remembered as a loving father, protective brother, loyal friend, and caring son—a man whose legacy lives on in the people he loved and the countless lives he touched.
