Darryl Kent Williams

Darryl Kent Williams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13th, 2022. Darryl was born on August 22, 1940 to John and Donna Williams in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the middle child of three boys. He loved the Salt Lake area and lived there his entire life, never expressing interest in living anywhere else.

He graduated from South High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1961. He then served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the British Isles Mission from 1961-1963. He loved the people of England and spoke fondly of his experiences there throughout the remainder of his life. When he returned home, he continued his military service with the Air National Guard Reserves from 1963-1966. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1966.

The moment he first saw his wife Elva, he was awe-struck by her beauty and grace. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, 1964. He began teaching and he and Elva were blessed with five amazing children. He taught elementary school for 30 years and touched and influenced so many lives along the way. He greatly enjoyed teaching and was very good at it, however, it was challenging at times. We remember him getting quite excited and giddy on the last day of school each year. He was also highly dedicated to his faith and church service. He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and The Book of Mormon that he loved to share with others. He faithfully served in many church callings including serving as Bishop of the Granger 25th Ward…. TWICE!

Darryl had a great sense of humor and was always making his family laugh. We will never forget his fun and silly antics over the years and his infamous “Squantahontas�? stories. He was a kid at heart in many ways and nothing brought it out of him like water and amusement parks. He loved waterslides and roller coasters and would just laugh and laugh the entire time he was on them. He was a loyal and enthusiastic Utah Utes fan all his life. He was a season ticket holder for Utah football and basketball most of his life and rarely missed a game. He was passionate about it and loved the University of Utah with all his heart. He was also deeply patriotic and loved America and its founding.

Darryl was a kind and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Elva; three daughters and two sons: Sandra (Kelly) Bryant, Donna (Kary) Jensen, Douglas (Sherri) Williams, Wendy (Scott) Searle, and Shane (Stacey) Williams. He has 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Donna, his brothers, Robert and James, and son-in-law Kelly.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Prairie 10th Ward, 7337 Grizzley Way, West Jordan, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, December 19th, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the same location.
