Our dear, sweet son, brother, and uncle Daniel Kirt Collings lost his six-year battle with cancer on December 20, 2019. Kirt was born January 16, 1969 to Dixie Ann Bowles Collings and Francis Kit Collings in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a happy child who loved riding his big wheel around the neighborhood. But Kirt’s life changed on May 25, 1977 when the first Star Wars movie premiered. That’s when he became a Star Wars fan for life. He had the blue lightsaber of the Jedi Guardian, but Kirt also revealed a little dark side as well, having requested and gotten the red lightsaber of the Sith. Kirt in fact loved all kinds of sci-fi and supernatural shows. He could tell you everything and anything about Star Wars and Star Trek as well as Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers.
Kirt graduated from Cyprus High School in June of 1987 and attended trade school after high school. He had an artistic talent which he expressed by creating great sand pictures and paintings. He lived with his mother and father in the home where he grew up in West Valley City and spent his time building models and rockets, planning little tricks to play on the family, and creating all sorts of art with his 3D printer which he shared with the family. He perfected the art of giving the warmest and tightest hugs and cuddling with the dogs on the floor.
Kirt is survived by his mother, Dixie Collings, his father, Kit Collings, his sister Tammy Corrigan (Frankie), and his brother Kyle Collings (Sara), His nieces and nephews, Harli Collings, Bentlee Ivie, Rev Collings and Axel Corrigan, were the loves of Kirt’s life and they will miss him greatly.
A viewing will be held at Valley View Memorial Park & Funeral Home (4335 W. 4100 S.) January 10, 2020, from 11:00 am - 12:45 pm, followed by a graveside service from 1:00 - 1:30 pm. We will be celebrating Kirt’s fun-loving life at a casual event at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel (150 W. 500 S.) January 11, 2020, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
Our family would like to thank Utah Cancer, Dr. Fame, and all the staff members for taking such great care of Kirt.
Luke Skywalker: And this is the lesson. That Force does not belong to the Jedi. To say that if the Jedi die, the light dies, is vanity. May the Force be with you, Kirt.
