He was born on March 6, 1927 in Rigby, Idaho to Arnel D. Madsen and
Sarah Weaver. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II and
served in Japan as part of the Army of Occupation. Boyd attend schools in Rigby
and graduated from Rigby High. Shortly after High School he married Donna
Thornton and very soon left to serve his country. Donna died shortly after their
son Donald McKay Madsen was born while Boyd was stationed in Japan. On
July 21, 1948 Boyd married Mildred Bowles in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were
married for almost 70 years and raised five children.
His wife and family were the most important part of his life and he worked hard all
his life to provide for them. He was a faithful member of the LDS church serving
as Bishop twice as well as many other ward and stake callings. He faithfully
served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Utah Temple for 19 years.
His love for his wife was immeasurable. His consistent example of work and
service is his greatest gift to his children and grandchildren. He loved to work in
his woodshop. Together with his wife they tied many, many warm blankets for
children, grandchildren, friends and anyone who slept cold. In later years he
enjoyed sitting on his back porch working on puzzles and watching movies and
feeding the birds.
Boyd is survived by his wife Mildred, his son Donald McKay Madsen of
Washington also by his son David Madsen (Kenna), daughters Jolyn Adams
(DeeWayne), Cathie Plothow (Steve), Renee Petersen (Jeff), and Sara LaRee
Madsen. He loved his 26 grandchildren, 40 + great grandchildren and one Great
Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and his siblings Gayle
Madsen, Wilma Pence and Lance Madsen.
A viewing will be held for family and friends on June 11, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at
Valley View Mortuary located at 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley, Utah.
Funeral service will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 5720 South 4270 West
Kearns, Utah at 12:00 no viewing will be held prior to funeral services.
