August 21, 1948 – July 16, 2023
On Sunday, July 16, 2023, Bill E. Williams died following an eighteen-month battle with cancer. Bill was born August 21, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Billy Neil and Norma Jean Hansen Williams. He was the older brother to his siblings, Cindy and Mark. Bill and his family lived in Rose Park throughout his youth. He graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah. In 1974, Bill went to work for P.I.E. Trucking. He remained in the freight industry for the rest of his career.
Bill met Helen Steyl in 1980, and they were together for over 35 years. They enjoyed traveling together, especially to Monterey and Jackson Hole. Helen lost her battle with cancer in 2017. Bill later reconnected with longtime friend Kathy Gordon. They became partners and companions, sharing their love, lives and families for almost six years. They enjoyed spending every day together. He loved her and her family dearly. Bill fancied himself a wordsmith and called himself a Sesquipedalian (look it up). He never used a short word if he knew a longer one. Bill enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling, and getting together with his friends Ray, John, Dave, Rolfe, Mike, Maureen, Claire, and Tex.
Bill was a wonderful, caring brother to Cindy. He was a strong, kind and generous man. He would willingly give a hand to anyone in need. As his final act of service, he gave the gift of sight by donating his eyes to the Lion’s Club Eye Bank.
Bill was preceded in death by Helen, his parents, brother Mark, brother-in-law Cardon, nephew Steven and niece Amy. He is survived by his love Kathy, his sister Cindy, nieces Amber Corbitt (Nick and Grace) and Jessica Halbro (Mike). He is also survived by Elaine, Karen, Vince, Lauren, Terry, Ryan, Beau and Brenda, Annie, Tom, Julia, Brett and Kristy, Starr and Tim, and other extended family members. He will also be missed by Chris and Tiffany.
A short service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 am inside the Valley View Mortuary on 4100 South 4335 West in West Valley City, followed by his interment. Dress casually
