Leona Kortge

Leona was born June 6, 1921 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Anna Belle (Rodgers) and Ernin Stanley King.

She married Kenneth Kortge November 21, 1939 in Henderson, KY. He preceded her in death in December of 2008.

Leona was a faithful and active member of the West Salem Moravian Church and enjoyed teaching the adult Sunday School Class for many years. She loved her family and truly made their house a home.

Leona worked for several years as an assembly worker for Champion Laboratory, before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and an infant daughter, Lois Ann Kortge and two grandchildren: Damon Townsend and Melody Kortge.

She leaves many fond memories for her family to cherish. They include her two daughters: Miriam Townsend of Granada Hills, CA and Ann Kortge of Franklin, New Hampshire, four sons: Harry and wife Lana Kortge of Park Forest, IL, John and wife Louella Kortge, David and wife Beverly Kortge and Mike and wife Fran Kortge, all of West Salem, IL. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, one sister, Flotella King of Albion, IL and one brother, Harold and wife Clara Belle King of Elgin, IL.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Moravian Church of West Salem, IL. Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Ingram Funeral Home, West Salem, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Moravian Church in memory of Leona Kortge.
