She was born October 5, 1919 to Lillie Ann (Yates) and James Percy Hall in Saint Joseph, IL.
Doris married John V. Lemke on February 7, 1945 at the E.U.B. parsonage at West Salem, IL.
She was a farm wife who diligently worked alongside John, driving the tractor and milking the cows.
She was an avid reader, and she most especially loved reading the Bible, and when her sight was gone, she continued this enjoyment by listening to books on tape. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who thrived on making each family member feel special by making their favorite food; her specialties included home -made doughnuts, and strawberry shortcake. She wanted her family with her anytime, but especially during the holidays. Her personal goal was to make her family happy and she would accommodate them in every way she could. She was a faithful member of the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem and taught the adult Sunday School class for many years.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters: Helen (Hall) Lemke, Carmen O’Brien and Edna Summerfield, two brothers: Archie Hall and Orville Hall.
She is survived by her two daughters: Helen (Clyde) Liston, Geff, IL, Janet (Stephen) King, Mason City, IL,
Two sons: John “Bud” (Mary) Lemke, Olney, IL and Jim Lemke, West Salem, IL. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Lisa (Roger) Wayland, John Robert (Robin) Lemke, Brad (Becca) Atteberry, Lori (Chris) Schmittler, Steve (Wendy) Liston, Dawn (Tim) Brandt, Amanda Bailey, Andrea (Josh) Slater, David (Jessica) King and Diane (Adam) Chisholm, and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for Doris Lemke will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Zion United Methodist Church at West Salem, IL. Burial will follow at the Moravian Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church, West Salem, IL in lieu of flowers.
