Suzanne Jeanne Hickman unexpectedly went home to be with her heavenly father on February 14, 2024. It is appropriate that on a day that is known for the celebration of love, she left on this day, forever reminding her children how deeply she loved them. Suzanne was born in Syracuse, NY on October 23, 1942 and was the middle child of her beloved parents, Bernard and Beatrice Gillen. She lived seasonally in Atlantis, FL before moving permanently to the community she deeply loved in 1996. Suzanne was a life-time athlete who played competitive tennis, and recently started playing pickleball. She had an extremely busy mind and was an avid game player who excelled at anything involving word assembly; she was a crossword puzzle aficionado, and a wizard at puzzle assembly. Suzanne and her late husband John Hickman built a successful subcontracting firm, Architectural Finishes, Inc, where they serviced commercial clients throughout New York State and Boston, MA. Suzanne was predeceased by her brother David Gillen, her husband John Hickman, her brother-in-law Dan Kuykendall, and her brother-in-law Joseph Hickman. She is survived by her sister Maureen Butterfield (Gary), her children Stacie Whitbeck (Dr. M. Gordon Whitbeck, Jr), John Hickman, and Jennifer Hickman; six grandchildren Jessica Hickman, Caleb Craig, Andrew Whitbeck, John W. Hickman, Jr, Mikaela Craig, Elizabeth Whitbeck, along with many extended family members. She will be affectionately remembered by her many friends in Syracuse and West Palm Beach and made an impact on everyone who met her. “Suzy Q”, as her closest friends would refer to her, approached her last days fearlessly, peacefully, and with great excitement to be reunited with her loved ones. As a woman of great faith, she called upon the promise in Thessalonians 4:13-18 that she would spend eternity in the company of her heavenly father. Let us all be comforted by God’s promise of eternal life.
