Susan Elizabeth Byrd passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024. She was born February 21,1943 to Hy Byrd and Gertrude Fitzgerald Byrd in Scarsdale, NY. She is survived by her three children, Eric Miller and his wife Pui Miller, Jason Miller and his wife Traci Miller and Charley Jenness and his partner Erica Fredrickson; her sister, Sally Ohrstrom of Palm Beach; and her four grandchildren, Sydney Miller, Graham Miller, Austin Miller and Justin Miller. She is also survived by her partner, David Brodsky, her favorite bridge partner and closest friend in her final years. The family cannot thank him enough for the love, care and support he has given to her and her family. Susan was predeceased by her parents and siblings Linda Byrd, Bob Byrd and Jim Byrd.
Susan spent her childhood in Houston, TX and Newport, RI and raised her children in Boston, MA and Houston, TX. She spent the last 20 years in Palm Beach, FL and Newport, RI. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in English. She earned her Masters in Counseling at Boston University. While raising her 3 children, she held various career roles, including working in real estate and as a family and hospice bereavement counselor and found helping others so fulfilling.
Susan found immense joy exploring the world through travel and music, especially opera and country. Her keen eye for color was always present whether it was collecting art, interior design or fashion. She loved nothing more than the "thrill of the hunt" during shopping expeditions alongside her closest friends and her sister, Sally. She prioritized health and fitness and loved tennis, hiking, skiing and long walks. Playing bridge and other card games provided cherished moments spent with her beloved family and friends.
