Stephen W. Barto, Sr., age 73, passed away on Monday, May 30th, 2022. He was a Florida native, born in Miami. Steve was a Mechanical Contractor and spent his entire adult life working in the Air Conditioning industry…first in his father’s company and later on his own. He also received a patent for an air conditioning unit he designed. Steve had many skills, talents, and interests. His mechanical skills extended beyond his occupation. He was fascinated with the inner workings of everything and his woodworking skills were to be envied. He even designed and built his dream home. Steve was not one to engage in things in a halfway measure, he jumped in with both feet. He loved all things antique and collected a variety of unusual objects. Steve enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, hunting, boating, riding motorcycles, driving antique cars, music, photography, cooking, and pets, to name a few. Steve was active with many clubs and organizations. He spent 6 years on the Contractor’s Licensing Board. He had a Federal Firearms License and was past president of the Gun Collector’s Club. He also was a member of the Florida Airboat Association, as well as several Antique Car and Motorcycle clubs. Steve was proud of being sober for 33 years in Alcoholics Anonymous. During that time, he helped many others in their recovery. Stephen is survived by Paula, his loving wife of 40 years, his son, Stephen W. Barto, Jr., his daughter, Christina Barto Register, his grandchildren, Stephen W. Barto III, Kirk, Marina and Benson. Family members who predeceased him include his daughter Jessica, and his parents Roy Barto and Betty Gartrell.
