March 20, 1943 - December 17,2021
Sondra Ward Ziegfeld McCarty went home to her Lord and Savior on December 17, 2021 following a stroke.
She leaves behind her beloved husband and hunny bunny Dennis McCarty; two devoted children Dave (Pam) McCarty and Diane (Loren) Brown; Grandchildren Jake (Mary) McCarty, Kahla Haber-Brown, Summer (Cole) Hoskins, Mason Brown and Hunter Brown; and the twinkle in her eye was her first great grandchild, Millie McCarty.
Born on March 20, 1943 in Charleston WV, God orchestrated her adoption by Clela and Bob Ziegfeld completing their family that included adopted brother Ted. Her family has preceded her in death.
West Virginia was always in her heart but with her marriage to Dennis in 1963 she signed on for a couple of decades of travel and relocation. She made many states home, but Florida claimed the majority of her time on earth and Palm Beach Gardens is where she lived and loved for the last 40 years.
She wore many hats and had a varied and eventful career path. Sondra worked in her family's schools and churches, insurance, travel, diet and nutrition, and Christian radio. She likely contributed more of her hours to volunteering than she did to working. A true example of being the hands and feet and light of Christ, she passionately embraced helping people, from missionaries to lost souls, unwed mothers and countless others literally around the world.
Simply put, she inspired everyone, without fail. Her refusal to surrender to her physical limitations, her unfailing servitude to her Savior and all of His children and her incredibly fierce devotion to her family made everyone love her or want to be like her. Many of her children's friends called her their second mother. There is no one that knew her that will not truly miss her and her heart melting smile.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday Dec 29, 2021 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home at 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417.
Interment will be at South Florida National Cemetery in a separate family service.
