Roland “Slim” D. Hill passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the age of 96. He was born on October 4, 1919, in Farmerville, Louisiana, and graduated from Louisiana Tech with a Civil Engineering degree.
He served as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and received many decorated medals of honor including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, China Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal with bronze star. Roland retired after completing his professional career as an engineer with the city of New York and relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach, Florida. A second service will be held in Farmerville, Louisiana, on Friday, May 6 at First Baptist Church with graveside services to follow at Farmerville Cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Rupp Hill; two brothers, Jack Hill and James P. Hill; his parents, Ellora Smith Hill and Leo Jack Hill; and a brother - in - law, Kenneth Rupp. Survivors include two sisters-in -law; Mary D. Hill and Arleen Rupp; four nieces, four nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews, a very special caregiver, Hyacinth Davis; and three devoted health care workers; Valerie Forbes, Marcia Dunkle, and Nadene Jean-Louis. He was blessed with many special friends including Dr. Robert Norris, Chyna Lamonte, Mary Perkins, Anna Logsdon, and Denny Johnson, and Adelle Kirkpatrick.
