Roger Delano Evans was born January 9,1946, as the first son, to Norman and Elsie Evans in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies. He spent the first 11 years of his life in Jamaica before he joined his parents in the United States, migrating to Bronx, NY where he attended Morris High School.
Roger later learned his trades in the construction industry as an apprentice to his beloved Uncle Byron Johnson. He performed numerous construction jobs throughout the New York City Metropolitan area until he retired. At a young age, Roger developed a love for “muscle” cars, to which, he saved his hard-earned money from his jobs on the construction site to buy his first car, a blue with a white stripe GTO. He took great pride with the care and maintenance of that vehicle and all other vehicles he owned thereafter.
In 1967, Roger married his first wife, Beverly Evans, with whom he had three beautiful children, Yvette, Rodger (Rod) and Matthew.
In 1998, Roger married his current wife, Jean Evans. They shared a life together in Queens, New York before he retired from the construction industry and they relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida.
Roger was a people person and was loved by many. He was remembered for his sense of humor and his jokes. He had a deep love for family. He is remembered for his early morning weekend social visits during the days when he lived in New York. His visits were always with love and concern for the family. Roger had a deep passion and love for music. He had a large, record collection of oldies that he would listen to every chance he got, while making mixtapes for family and friends. He would put his special touch on each cassette tape he made by delicately mixing each song in with rhythm and announcing the artist and sound track being recorded. Aside for his love of family and music, Roger was an avid New York Mets baseball fan, Westerns movies and television show fan and loved to go fishing.
Roger was predeceased by his parents Norman and Elsie Evans, half-sister Joan Evans and daughter Yvette Hall.
Roger is survived by his wife Jean Evans, ex-wife Beverly Evans, sister Carol Forsythe, brothers Courtney Evans and Charles Evans, sons Rodger Evans and Matthew Evans, son-in-law Alec Hall, stepchildren Lawrence Brown and Stacy Valentine, grandchildren Lamar Rosskopf, Leah Evans, Maiyah Hall, Matthew Evans Jr (MJ), and step-grandchildren Lisa Brown, Caleb Brown and Nyaa Thomas, also nephews: Glen (GB) Forsythe, Craig Evans, Brandon Evans, and nieces: Audrey Harris, Shakira Evans, Jamie Evans and Camille Evans and a host of beloved cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
