Paul R. Burns of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born on June 5, 1936 in Bronx, NY, where he grew up with his loving parents, Alan and Elsie Burns.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in History in 1958.
Paul worked as a credit manager early in his career, but he spent the majority of his working life as a substance abuse counselor.
Paul was a volunteer firefighter while his girls were growing up. For over 50 years, he was actively involved in several community groups where he was a cherished and committed member. Because he loved dogs, later in life, he volunteered at Big Dog Ranch, a dog rescue program near and dear to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Alan and Elsie Burns.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Einbinder, his dear daughters Jodi Whiting and Jeri Burns, their husbands Jim Whiting and Barry Marshall, and his precious grandchildren, Devyn, Jacob, and Zack. He is also survived by his loving stepson, Scott Einbinder, and his wonderful step grandchildren, Nicole and Tyler.
Paul was a music lover. Music was always playing wherever he was. From Beethoven to Abba, he loved music. He also loved to dance; he could be found on Long Island dance floors doing disco and swing in his dancing hey-day. Paul had a sharp and witty sense of humor that could disarm a room and make everyone laugh. And he laughed along too, smiling hugely. Paul’s kindness and love deeply touched everyone who knew him.
The family would like to thank his caring helpers from ComForCare Home Care, Palm Garden Skilled Nursing Facility, VITAS Healthcare, and friend Barbara Gelblat for the care and compassion they showed Paul in his final days. And most of all, we want to thank his wife, Barbara, for her tireless devotion to Paul during all his health challenges.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Quattlebaum’s Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach on Saturday, November 4, at 1pm. It will also be streamed on Zoom. If you are interested in attending virtually, please contact Jeri Burns or ask another family member to put you in touch with her. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Paul’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
