Pat was born November 9, 1932 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. She was one of five children. Her mother was Beatrice Staunton and her father was Thomas Callahan. Both were born and raised in Ireland. As young adults, they immigrated to New York where they met and married.
Pat graduated from the Madames of the Sacred Heart Academy Grammar School and the St. Ferrer High School in Manhattan. She met her futur was e husband, Alfred Fix, when she was 16 and he was 18 in New York City. They married the next year in 1951. On January 27, 2023 they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
After their marriage, Pat joined the New York Telephone Company as a Business Office Supervisor for the famous ‘Butterfield 8’ telephone exchange. After Al got his degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York University, Pat retired to pursue a more fulfilling role - to build and nurture her new, loving family.
Pat is survived by her husband Al Fix and three children - Madeline Howlett, Christine Vipond, and Christopher Fix. She also leaves behind her only grandchild, Olivia Vipond who blessed her with immeasurable happiness.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews including James Sweeney Jr, Thomas Sweeney, Carol Wallace, Tricia Flynn, Christine Barry, Joan Bernardo, Maureen Saeli, Harold and Thomas Jacobsen, Michael Kiernan, Thomas Kiernan, and Kelly Kiernan.
Pat was the last survivor of five children and was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Joseph Callahan, and two sisters, Frances Sweeney and Margaret Kiernan.
Pat believed strongly in Christian values and respect for all people. She was a devout Catholic. Her bubbly personality and extroverted nature attracted people to her. These qualities earned her deep admiration from her friends. She was strong-willed and stood her ground when needed.
Pat enjoyed her life as a corporate wife and attended many worldwide events with her husband in the energy field. After Al retired, they moved from Atlantic Beach, NY to Palm Beach, Florida. Pat loved Palm Beach and was active in the St. Edward's Women's Guild.
We wish to extend our deep appreciation to all her relatives and friends who supported Pat’s final days. A private memorial service was held by the immediate family at her home in Palm Beach.
Pat will be interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York next to her Irish grandmother, Alice (Broughton) Fix.
