Mary L. Veverka, a 44 year Palm Beach Post Employee, age 71, from West Palm Beach, Florida passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born January 26, 1944 in Panama City, Florida and moved to the Palm Beach area in 1961. Mary graduated from Forest Hill High School and attended Palm Beach State College.
Mary's association with newspapers is not unique in the Veverka family - rather it is a trait. Mary's father Richard "Dick" and mother Toni worked for the Perry-owned Jacksonville Journal for three years before moving to Panama City and Dick worked for the News-Herald. The family came to the Palm Beach area in 1961. He joined the Post-Times and her mother Toni was the editor of The Palm Beach Daily News and Palm Beach Life Magazine. Her sister Martha joined the Daily News as a city editor.
During Mary's 44 year career as an Account Executive in the Retail Advertising department of the newspaper she received numerous awards including The Sales Person of the Year. She retired in 2007.
She is survived by her loving sister, Martha Parrish; two nieces, one nephew; four grand-nieces and one grand-nephew.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will take place at 11:00AM Sunday, May 17 at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION, and EVENT CENTER, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach
