Mary Overly Mowry

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 9th, 2024 in the East Chapel at Spanish River Church located at 2350 Yamato Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Lunch will be served immediately following the service.

Mary was born on December 30, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Frank Lemmon Overly and Sarah Lightcap Overly. She earned a degree in home economics teaching from Heidelberg College in Ohio and went on to teach in Latrobe, PA. After marrying Richard Mellon Mowry, Jr., she moved to Deerfield Beach, where she focused on raising their family. Mary was deeply involved in her community and played a key role in founding the Deerfield Beach Historical Society. Her commitment to service extended to her church as well. She became a member of Spanish River Church in 1987, where she served as an active teacher and leader, dedicating much of her time to enriching the lives of others.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Mellon Mowry, Jr. and her brother, Dr. Wylie Overly.

Mary is survived by her 3 children, Richard Mellon Mowry III (Linsay), Sarah DeMaria (George), and Garrett Mowry (Casey); Grandchildren George Michael DeMaria (Gabrielle), Holly DeMaria, Christen DeMaria, Shawn Mowry (Kristen), Jessica Mowry, Evan Mowry, & Logan Mowry; Great-grandchildren, George Michael DeMaria and Anna Kate Mowry. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
