Palm Beach. She was born in Havana, Cuba on November 9, 1945 to the late Roberto and
Dalia Alvarez. At the age of 15, she moved to West Palm Beach, FL where she met the love of
her life, Johnny, living across the street on Florida Ave. to later marry him at the age of 19 on
April 24, 1965.
As a young child she was in a convent. When she moved to West Palm Beach, FL she
attended Palm Beach High School where she fully enjoyed being in Chorus and then went on
to Palm Beach Junior College. She has worked at ITT Semiconductors, her Aunt’s nursery
school, ran her own nursery school “Wonderful World”, and then worked as a Language
Facilitator and in the ESOL program at Belvedere Elementary. She loved helping and teaching
children.
Mariana was a devout Catholic attending St. Juliana Church and always praying her rosary.
She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is known as being a
warrior, never giving up and staying strong, right up until the very end. She enjoyed the beach,
going to the movies, going out to eat, and dancing. She loved gardening and her green thumb
showed. Green just so happens to have been her favorite color. She especially loved her
orchids. Orchids represent love, beauty, and strength and coincidentally Mariana had exactly
those. She enjoyed crafts and creating many beautiful things. She also enjoyed playing Bunco
with her friends. But what she enjoyed the most was her family.
Mariana A. Sylvester is predeceased by her beloved husband of 37.5 years, John Philip
Sylvester; her parents Roberto and Dalia Alvarez; and her brothers Roberto Alvarez and
Fernando Alvarez.

Genevieve, and Madeleine Sylvester; Landon and Scarlett Sylvester and Michael Trevino; her
sister Dalia E. Alvarez; her cousins Luis Felipe and Armando Felipe; in-laws, numerous nieces,
