Mallory was born June 5, 1957, to Bettye and James Winters in Houston, TX. She was a true lover of life, living every moment to its fullest and was always laughing. She attended The Kinkaid School and spent the majority of her summers growing up at Camp Longhorn where she excelled at swimming. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she attended Georgetown University to pursue a Masters in Spanish but soon realized that path was not for her. She decided to move to New York City and found a job at Sotheby’s where she discovered her joy for cooking and throwing parties and thus her catering business days began. She always looked back on her time in New York with such fondness for her friends, career, as well as her love for the city. New York is also where she welcomed her only child into the world, Brooke.
She found herself back in Houston after moving out New York where she raised Brooke with the loving help of her own mother, Bettye. Mallory loved to travel and the three generations of women enjoyed so many beautiful trips together across the country, from La Jolla to Charleston and San Francisco to Martha’s Vineyard. Mallory always planned the absolute best trips. She particularly loved La Jolla and the three of them spent many beautiful summers there grilling dinners on the beach and exploring the Cove and Seal Rock.
Mallory eventually relocated to one of her favorite places, Palm Beach— she fit in perfectly with her colorful attire and wide-brimmed beach hats. She loved living in the sunshine and one of her favorite pastimes was taking ocean drives or listening to the waves crash onto the beach. You could always either find her at Bricktop’s having the chips and guacamole (her off menu specialty) or at La Goulue having her all time favorite, the cheese soufflé. Even while in the hospital her main request was for someone to bring her her favorite mango gelato from Sant Ambroeus — always thinking first and foremost about food, a trait she has definitely passed onto her daughter who will continue to cook her famous ‘Mexican Casserole’ recipe for years to come.
Mallory is survived by her sister, Sheryl, and daughter, Brooke. Brooke would like to express immense gratitude to Mallory’s nurses for taking such wonderful care of her and for treating her as family throughout the years.
