Laurence Cary “Buzzy” Abramson, age 82 of West Palm Beach, FL, died December 22, 2022 in West Palm Beach. He was born June 6, 1940 in Laconia, NH and was raised in the Washington D.C. area by Nathan and Dorothy (Horwitz) Abramson. His father, Nathan, was an immigrant to the United States, originally born in Russia (now Lithuania) in 1894 and was raised in South Africa until he emigrated to the U.S. at age 13 in 1907.
After a happy, playful, and somewhat mischievous childhood with his beloved sister Ellie (Morgan), Buzzy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and subsequently received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law. He married Luci Levin in 1966 and had children Ronald, Douglas, and Andrew. Buzzy began work as an attorney, soon partnering in law with the highly revered Harry Wolpoff to form the law firm of Wolpoff & Abramson.
After 13 years, Buzzy and Luci reached the end of their story together. But, Buzzy soon met Ron’s incredibly popular 6th grade teacher at Potomac Elementary School, Eileen Wise. She captivated Buzzy with her stunning looks, great education, intelligence (having two Master’s degrees), and her kind personality. On only their second date, Buzzy bravely brought Eileen to Ronald’s Bar-Mitzvah in 1981. Buzzy married Eileen Wise in 1982.
Eileen lovingly helped to raise Buzzy’s three (3) exuberant and enthusiastic boys. She has been a loyal, devoted and incredibly loving stepmother and wife. Buzzy and Eileen proudly celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.
Buzzy was a renowned attorney and business leader at the highly respected law firm of Wolpoff & Abramson and later partnered with his attorney son, Ronald, along with Harry’s talented son, Stuart Wolpoff. The firm ignited with growth and eventually transformed into one of the nation’s leading financial services operations with over 1,200 employees in 22 states managing in excess of $20 billion of assets.
Buzzy raised his sons to be strong young men and passed along many important and beneficial life lessons to them. He encouraged education, growth, and resilience. And, he taught them the value of family and commitment.
He loved every one of his family dogs through the years, including Yogurt, Luke, Truman, Reagan, and Bentley. He was described by many as a personality larger than life and was known for his impeccable and flamboyant style and snazzy clothing. Perhaps best known by many for his fanatic love of cars. Buzzy owned nearly every possibility, including many rare Ferraris, Rolls Royces, Porsches, and Bentleys.
Buzzy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Eileen Abramson; his sons Ronald (with wife Carly), Douglas, and Andrew (with wife Stacy); along with his four loving grandchildren Ethan (21), Lindsay (19), Natan (16) and Doren (13). And, his ever loyal puppy dog Bentley (13).
