He was born in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico on July 24, 1933. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and would speak about Him with anyone who would listen.
Juan participated in the Korean War as a soldier in the United States Army. When Juan left the military, he pursued a new mission: Building a family with his beloved wife. Sharing a long and happy romance, Juan and Isabel were married for 67 years.
He leaves behind his children Victor (Sandra) Matos, Maribel (Frank) Rosa, Marta (Angel) Roque, Mario (Christeen) Matos, Janira (Ovidio) Morales. Grandchildren: Clary-Ani Matos, Crystal Matos, Katie Matos, Frank Rosa Jr., Ashley (Christopher) Oldaker, Ruben (Amanda) Cabrera, Rosie Roque, Darian (Matthew) Newbeck, Mario Matos Jr, Edward (Talitha) Matos, Elijah Morales, Nathan Morales. Great-grandchildren: Anastasia Cabrera, Rylan Juan Cabrera, Phoenix Matos. He is survived by his caring niece, Minerva (Orlando) Pizarro, great-niece Suzette Pizarro, great-nephew Japheth Pizarro and his son Hezekiah, along with many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Francisco Matos and Maria Flora Santiago. Sisters: Esther Maria Matos, Julia Matos. Brothers: Carlos Matos, Evelio Matos, Luis Matos, and Benigno Matos. He is survived by his sister Luz Selenia Matos.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation, and Event Center, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 9, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. All friends and family are welcome.
A public committal service with military honors will occur Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at South Florida National Cemetery. Attendees are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:45 AM.
