John B. Clark, 93, of West Palm Beach, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, at his home, with his devoted wife, Fidelma, and his son, John B. Clark Jr., and daughter-in-law, Cornelia, by his side. Born on January 9, 1931, in Melrose, MA, to Alonzo and Margaret Clark, John lived a long and fulfilling life marked by hard work, dedication and love for his family.
John faced early challenges, losing his mother at the age of 12 and being raised by his father, an US Mail carrier, along with his brother and sister in the close-knit Boston suburbs of Melrose and Malden. He paid his way through Notre Dame by working shifts at the Studebaker plant in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated with a finance degree in 1953, a testament to his determination and work ethic.
After fulfilling a two-year commitment with the United States Army, John began his career in the plastics industry, joining the plastic division of Monsanto Corp. He soon started his own company, Brown Plastic Engineering Company, in Northbrook, IL, which grew into a successful international enterprise. His expertise and leadership in the industry were recognized when he was quoted in Time Magazine.
John’s business acumen and success were a testament to hard work and resilience. He often expressed pride in his children’s and grandchildren's accomplishments, attributing much happiness to the success of his family. He is survived by his wife Fidelma Clark, his beloved children: Susan Clark, John B. Jr. (Cornelia), Cynthia Clark, Jackie Skeith, Steve Clark (Laura) and Amy Clark, his first wife Roberta Clark, his stepsons, Justin Galvin and Michael Galvin, both of London, as well as many grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his parents, his brother Richard Clark, and his sisters Alice Day and Mary Vaughn.
An active member of the community, John was involved with The Old Guard Society of the Palm Beaches, The Beach Club and the Pundits. He was an avid skier, enjoying regular trips to Aspen, and a dedicated Notre Dame football alumni and fan. John was also a passionate traveller, having visited nearly 100 countries throughout his remarkable life.
John will be laid to rest at his beloved Notre Dame. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
