Jane Hargrave Simpson of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away on December 28, 2021. Jane was born on October 16, 1931 in Bronxville, NY. She was the daughter of Elmer Hargrave and Stephanie Ansbro Hargrave. Jane was the second of six girls and always had a lively personality with a quick wit. She graduated from Pelham Memorial High School, in Pelham NY in 1949. She then went to work as an actuary at Metropolitan Life Insurance in NY, NY where she worked until she married James F. Simpson on July 8, 1961. The couple lived in Bronxville where her two oldest children were born. Jane then moved to Montvale, NJ and Toronto, Canada and finally settled for 12 years in River Vale N.J. Jane was a devoted wife and mother. She was the President of the PTA at St. Andrew’s School in Westwood, NJ and was active as a room mother. She was also a girl scout leader and team mother for her sons’ little league teams. Jane then moved with her family to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She was very active at St. Clare’s school where her children were enrolled.
Jane was a daily communicant at St. Thomas More parish for many years. In more recent years, Jane could be seen at various sporting events at Rosarian Academy, St. Clare’s Catholic School, St. Malachy Catholic School, St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Cardinal Newman High School, Cardinal Gibbons High School and St. John Paul II Academy enthusiastically cheering her grandchildren on while they played lacrosse, baseball, football, soccer, ran track and cheered for the football and basketball teams.
Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years, James F. Simpson. Jane is survived by her six children, Alison Schefer, (Lee) West Palm Beach, FL. James F. Simpson, Jr. (Holly) Macon, GA, Corinne Miller, (Karl) Coral Springs, FL. Lauren Morris, (Jeffrey) Savannah, GA, Matthew Simpson, (Alicia) Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. and Daniel Simpson, (Elaine), Boca Raton, FL., her 22 grandchildren, and her 8 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Jane’s honor at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Wellington, Florida on January 4, 2022 at 11:00 am.
