James Leland Mamer of Atlantis, Florida passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, May 7th, at his home. He was born on December 9th, 1940 in Evanston, Illinois to Leland J. and Marianne D. Mamer, both deceased. He was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey and was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of the Purdue crew team. He was a member of A.S.M.E. He worked as an aeronautical engineer for Pratt & Whitney for 40 years. He retired from Belcan Engineering in Palm Beach Gardens after completing 15 years in the summer of July 2016.
Jim was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He and his wife, Gayle (deceased) enjoyed 24 years of family vacations at Callaway Gardens in Georgia with their children and made life-long friends there. He was a jazz aficionado and patron of the Arts Garage with his wife, Barbara. He was an avid reader since childhood and particularly enjoyed reading history. Jim was a health and fitness junkie and was a ballroom dance instructor.
He is remembered in love by his wife, Barbara Mamer, his daughter Jeana of Los Angeles, daughter Jaimee (Scott) Rosenthal and grandchildren Stanton & Clara of Chargrin Falls, Ohio, daughter Justine Mamer of Lake Worth; step daughter, Yetta Shapiro of Ft. Lauderdale ;sister Mary Lee Thayer( Richard) of Milan Ohio; and several loving nieces ,nephews and cousins. Jim is also greatly missed by Oscar, his devoted cat of 18 years.
The family will greet friends from 4:00PM to 5:00PM, Saturday May 13, 2017 with a Celebration of Life Service at 5:00PM at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach FL 33405.
