Gabriel David Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1943. He moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, as a teenager and graduated from Palm Beach High in 1962. Gabriel attended the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, on a football scholarship, and later served in the US Army in Vietnam as part of the Redcatchers 199th Infantry Brigade. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service, and will buried in the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida. Gabriel resided in San Francisco for nearly 30 years, and was the chef and owner of the Grapeleaf, a Middle Eastern restaurant in the city’s Richmond District. Gabriel returned to West Palm Beach in 1990. He is a long-time parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church and was a dedicated volunteer at St. Ann Place, an outreach center for homeless men and women. Gabriel will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sunny disposition, warm heart, and contagious smile. He is survived by his brothers Joseph Michael of Brooklyn, New York, George A. Michael of West Palm Beach, and William Michael of Lake Worth; his sisters Delores Tayoun of Philadelphia and Teresa Polizzi of Brooklyn, New York; and many loving nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his siblings Agnes Regesh, Mary Terceira, and Edmund Michael, all of West Palm Beach. The wake will be held Thursday, January 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Avenue in West Palm Beach. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 310 N. Olive Avenue, in West Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, Gabriel’s family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Ann Place in West Palm Beach.
