Esther Ramos, 78, and Jose Ramos, 81, passed away on January 13, 2021- devoted to each other in death just as they had been in life.
Esther Emerita Ramos was born in Camaguey, Cuba on September 18, 1942.
Jose Emilio Ramos also born in Camaguey on November 17, 1939.
They met when Esther was 12 and Jose was 15.
They married on April 24, 1960.
Jose and Esther planned to live out their lives in Cuba but when Communism fell upon their island, they fled. In 1960, Jose was among a group that hijacked an airplane that ultimately landed in Miami. Esther was pregnant with their first child at the time. Their daughter, Terri, was born in Cuba in 1961. Mother and daughter reunited with Jose in Miami on August 28, 1962.
The family moved to New Jersey where their son, Jose, was born in 1963.
They later moved to Miami and then to West Palm Beach where they settled for many years and made lifelong friends.
Jose managed an Auto Parts store and Esther worked at an electronics factory and cared for elderly patients.
Jose served as Vice President of the Village Green Condo Association and won re-election on the night he passed away.
Esther retired early so she could help care for her grandchildren- a decision that defined her legacy.
Both Esther and Jose were very instrumental in the upbringing of their grandchildren. They attended every game, play, dance or activity their grandchildren participated in- a consistent source of love and support in their lives.
Esther died on the morning of January 13, 2021. Jose died in the evening on the very same day; his heart, broken, over the loss of his partner of over 60 years.
Esther and Jose will be lovingly remembered by their daughter, Teresita Rodríguez (Robert), son, Jose Ramos (Monica), six grandchildren, Anthony, Alexie, Kristina, Alyssa, Kayleigh and Joshua and five great grandchildren: Alyvia, Thomas, Alesia, Julia, Ari and a baby girl due in March.
