"Mosse" Hvide 99, of West Palm Beach, formerly of Blowing Rock,NC ,Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Manhasset,New York and Tønsberg,Norway where she was born February 17,1916; died at home on Aug.6, 2015.
The famous "OSEBERG" Viking Ship (834AD) was found on her family's farm in SLAGEN,Tønsberg. The ship and some of its content are displayed at The Viking Ship Museum near Oslo. Edvard Munch's painting entitled "Four Girls from Asgaardstrand " was of her mother, two of her aunts, and a friend.
She was preceded in her death by her ex husband, Hans Johan Hvide; mother, Anna Roberg Mellevold and father, Bjarne Mellevold, and her devoted and loving companion of over 30 years, John Brogan.
She is survived by her son and daughter and one daughter-in-law:Johan Erik Hvide and Betsy S Hvide,Village of Golf,Fl; Elsa Hvide Mumma, Raleigh,NC; five grandchildren: Leif-Erik Hvide and Johan Anders Hvide, Lita Karin Sowrey Goodwin, Hans Albert Sowrey, Christina Mumma Childers, and four great grandsons: Hans Brandon Sowrey, Tyler Bryant Sowrey, Conner Goodwin, Magnus Johan Hvide, and Hans Kristoffer Hvide and great nieces and nephews in Norway.
She was a past member of Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club,The Everglades Club ,The Beach Club and The Palm Beach Bath and Tennis Club.She was an active fundraiser and Chairman of a number of Palm Beach Balls. Mosse was also a gifted gardener and lover of old books.
A Memorial Service will be held at St.Joseph's Episcopal Church in Boynton Beach, Fl at 3 PM on Saturday September 5th.
