Elaine J. Newman of Newton and Gloucester Massachusetts as well as Jupiter, Florida died peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2012. Elaine was born on October 11, 1923 to her loving parents Robert and Rita Stone. She was married to Dr. Arthur S. Newman, now deceased. She adored her two brothers Fred Stone and professor William H. Stone as well as her children Bruce Newman of South Windsor, Connecticut and Leslie Rifkin of Bedford, New Hampshire.
Elaine leaves her beautiful granddaughters Alison and Melissa Rifkin, her loving son-in-law Paul Mansback and daughter-in-law Diane Thomas. Also her cherished nephews Steven Stone, Paul Stone and Alexander Stone. And her nieces Susan Van Sicklen, Debra Nussbaum, Maxine Tracht and Freya Coursy.
Elaine was an extraordinary Interior Designer. She was a true maven and connoisseur of shopping. A room was her palette through which she expressed her sensitivity and creativity. She founded the Newman-Coar company in Boston and was a life long member of the American Society of Interior Design.
Elaine was the hub and unifier of her world and hosted hundreds of events for family and dear friends. Her cooking was famous and her chicken soup was medicine for so many.
Elaine's life was filled with wonderful travel all over the world from the pyramids of Egypt, to the great wall of China and the great cities of Europe.
Elaine was a guild and board member of the Maltz Jupiter theater. This theater became the love of her life and she especially supported the theater's school for children, the Conservatory of Performing Arts. In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate your generous donation in her name to the Maltz Jupiter Theater, 1001 East Indiantown Road, Jupiter, Florida 33477.Elaine will be missed by everyone she ever met and loved.
A graveside funeral will be arranged and held in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon Massachusetts for immediate family members only. A memorial will be planned for her friends in Jupiter, Florida.
