A lifelong resident of the Palm Beach area, he attended St. Ann Catholic School in West Palm Beach and went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame and Loyola Law School Chicago, both with highest honors. Ed was a member of the Florida Bar for over 50 years; the Illinois Bar; and served as a Captain in the USAR with nearly three years of active duty. He was deeply involved in our community having served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Hospital; member of the Board of Intracoastal Health Systems; President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association; and a member of the Florida Bar, Board of Governors. Ed also served as the first Judge in Palm Springs, FL; was the City Attorney for Atlantis, FL; the attorney for the Palm Beach County School Board; served as President of the West Palm Beach Expos Baseball Team; and President of the Frank J. Lewis Foundation. Additionally, he was also a Board member of the University of Notre Dame College of Arts and Letters; and President of the Young Democrats. Ed was an eternal fan of Notre Dame Football and the Chicago Cubs.
He was predeceased by his brother, Philip D. Lewis, Thomas and half-brothers Jerome, Joseph, John, and James, and half-sisters Charlotte and Josephine McGoorty; and his grandson Logan Lewis. Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen (nee Reardon); daughters, Sharon Lewis, Megan Mary Daly (Dan), Julia Deal West (Andrej Welser); sons Michael, Timothy (Eileen), and Sean; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Juliana Catholic Church, 4500 South Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 with Rev. Alfredo I. Hernandez, officiating. The interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL.
