98 years old, of Lake Worth, FL, formerly a longtime resident of Palm Beach, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Born in Ashland City,TN, she was the daughter of Arthur Thomas Gibbs and Bessie Lorraine Jackson. She moved to Palm Beach in 1938 where she was a member of the Bath & Tennis Club (where she was a tennis champion), the Everglades Club (where she was a putting champion) the Society of the Four Arts, and the Royal Poinciana Chapel.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Nancy R. Bliss of West Palm Beach; her sister, Elsa Lockert of Ashland City, TN; her brother, William Clayton Gibbs of Lebanon, TN; granddaughters, Shannon Bliss O’Malley and Amanda Elizabeth Gould and her great granddaughter, Amaya Kathleen Gould.
Visitation will be held at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION & EVENT CENTER at HILLCREST, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, on Saturday, August 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Graveside Services will be held at 9:30 AM on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, West Palm Beach.
