

Dr. David Boris Cano, age 61, of West Palm Beach, Florida died Tuesday August 29th. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Javier and Mirdza (nee Kalnins) Cano, Dr. Cano graduated from John I. Leonard High School in Greenacres Florida and attended the University of Florida earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry (High Honors). Dr. Cano completed his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to complete a fellowship in corneal, refractive and anterior segment surgery at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Cano and his wife, Dr. Lauree Manning, established the Cano & Manning Eye Center in 1997, working together to provide outstanding eye care to the Palm Beach community for over 25 years.
Dr. Cano was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. Devotion to his family and Christian faith were at the very core of his being, always shining through in his daily life. He has been an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 25 years.
Dr. Cano was honored for service to patients and contributions to the field of Ophthalmology, including:
• Florida Society of Ophthalmology’s “Shaler Richardson Service to Medicine Award” (2023),
• The Caridad Center’s “Connie Berry Award” for dedication to medical excellence for patient care (2023)
• Lighthouse for the Blind’s “Visionary Award for Excellence in Community Service for the Blind and Visually Impaired” (2021),
• Palm Beach County Medical Society “Physician Heroes Award” (2018),
He has held numerous leadership positions in Ophthalmology over the years, including:
• Founder and Chairman of the “For Eye Care Foundation” – The charitable arm of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology
• Board Member for the Florida Society of Ophthalmology
• Vice Chair and Board Member of the Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches
• Served as President of the Palm Beach County Ophthalmology Society, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and as a Councilor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Dr. Cano has been affiliated with The Caridad Center for over 15 years, serving both as a volunteer physician and instructor, helping to train the next generation of Ophthalmology physicians and surgeons.
Dr. Cano enjoyed travel, bicycling, and membership in The Executives’ Association of the Palm Beaches for over 20 years.
Dr. Cano is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dr. Lauree Manning; his sons Robert (Kaitlin) Cano and Andrew Cano; his mother Mirdza Cano; and siblings Tamara (Cano) Ward, Michael Cano, Rick Cano, and Leslie Cano.

A committal service will occur Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405.
