Carmen Acosta Prieto, a loving mother, wife, sister, mentor, and friend, passed away on Tuesday August 8th, 2023, at the age of ninety-six. She was surrounded by her family who will continue to honor her legacy by celebrating her life and accomplishments.
After completed high school at Colegio Teresiano in Camaguey, Cuba, she went on to receive several degrees from the University of Habana, one of which was the Doctor of Pharmacy.
She and her husband and 2 young children fled Cuba in 1961 for a better life in America.
In 1977, after an 18-month refresher course to revalidate her pharmacy license, Carmen was one of few to pass the Board of Pharmacy exam. She practiced pharmacy at St Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach and later, served at the County Mental Health Department in Delray Beach.
An accomplished pianist, Carmen also loved to embroider, make needlepoint designs, she enjoyed window shopping, spending time with friends and family and making her famous paella.
Born to loving parents, Antonio Prieto and Carmen Prieto Seijas, Carmen is predeceased by her husband Armando Acosta and her son, Dr. Armando Antonio Acosta. She is survived by Maria C. Acosta, her loving and devoted daughter.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 12 noon this Saturday August 12, at St Juliana’s Church located at:
4500 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405.
In lieu of giving flowers, a donation may be made for a mass in her honor at St Juliana’s Catholic Church or to another Catholic church of your choosing.
