Bret was born to Edward and Roberta Shoup on December 16, 1960, in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He was raised in Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army and then went on to develop careers in the commercial fishing industry and in hospitality management. A sports enthusiast and epicurean, Bret was often found putting together a feast on Sunday ahead of watching his beloved Washington Redskins play football.
He cared deeply about his family and friends and while he may not always have stayed in touch, in his heart, his love for them was everlasting. The world is darker in his absence.
Bret is survived by his parents Edward & Diane Shoup and Roberta & Morris Ray Smith, his mother-in-law Sabira Atul Modi, his wife Nisha, his son Jordan, his brothers Michael & Stuart, his sisters-in-law Dianne & Melody, and their families.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:00pm EST on December 13, 2023, at the Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33406.
Bret’s ashes will be laid to rest at sea at 1:30pm EST on December 14, 2023, aboard the Southern Comfort IV, The Palm Beach Yacht Center, 7848 S. Federal Highway, Hypoluxo, FL 33462.
