Ben spent his weekends hunting or fishing with his sons Bland Burris and Benjamin Rogers Jr. and their many friends. Ben loved spending time with friends and family most of all. He enjoyed taking care of his horses and riding his Harley to his favorite lunch spots. Ben and his wife, Joe Ann, loved kids and were foster parents. They provided stability and a positive environment for all the children that they sheltered. Ben had a truly special gift for quick wit and shooting off at the mouth. He had a natural and funny way that made everyone around him love and respect him. Ben gave his own special nickname to most everyone around him and it usually stuck with you for life.
In his early years, Ben joined the Air Force and survived as a Vietnam Veteran. He was a proud member of the Local 630 Pipefitters Union. Ben loved to travel and support his wife as she competed in horse shows with her horse named Angel. Ben spent his retirement playing and laughing with his grandkids at softball games, swim-meets, theater, and any other activities that they were interested in.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife Joe Ann on November 28th, 2016, along with his brothers William Franklin, Jr., James Harold, and his sisters Gladys Crews and Laura Wadley. He is survived by his brother Gene Rogers and sisters Kay Roberts and Ruth Ann “Queenie” Lawrence. His sons Bland Burris and Benjamin Rogers Jr., his daughter-in-law Melissa, and his grandchildren Montanah, Brieanah, Lexi, and Blake.
Papa Ben was deeply loved by all more than words can describe and he will be missed dearly every day by those who knew him. He will be remembered in our hearts with love, laughter, and smiles. He will be cherished through the countless memories of so many stories that will be told by his friends and family for years to come. Now, go rest pops while we carry the love that you gave us in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
