Arthur Francis Crouse, age 90, passed away peacefully January 29, 2023, after a valiant fight against cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Delores, whom he shared 71 wonderful years of marriage with and was his beacon of light in this world; his two children: Debra and Arthur D; his three grandchildren: Lisa Marie, Arthur D. II, and Kiersten, along with his last surviving sibling and sister: Janie.
He was born in 1932 and raised in Homestead, PA with his 6 siblings: Dolly, Jerry, Jerome, Kenny, Tubby, and Janie by his hard-working, loving parents: Art and Anne Crouse. He began work at U.S. Steel Mill at age 17, and married Delores at age 18. He knew Delores would be his forever love from the moment he laid eyes on her, and she truly was. He was drafted by the United States Army in 1950 at age 18 and spent 2 years serving his country in Fort Seal, OK. Art and Delores, along with their two children, moved from Monroeville, PA to sunny South Florida in 1962 with $20 in their pocket, a dream of a new beginning for their children, and determination in their hearts and minds. Art then went to work within the Palm Beach County Police departments as an officer for 7 years and remained an active, loyal member of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) for the rest of his life. And to his final career working at his family-owned pawn shop, Lake Park Pawn, for 18 years until he retired. But, for those who deeply know Art, we all know he was never fully retired. He enjoyed spending his free time on home projects, washing the cars, tinkering with jewelry, and staying busy any way he could. Art was never not on his feet moving and accomplishing a task at hand.
To know Art, you know his family was his everything in life. He dedicated over half of his life to raising not only his two children, but all three of his grandchildren, leaving an impact as a true father in all their lives forever. He was a brother, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend to many. The list of names we all knew him by could take up a whole page, but some to note: Uncle Pansy, Officer Crouse, Dad, Pop, Papa, and Art. To know Art, truly was to love Art. He never hesitated to help those in need, never expecting anything in return. While his physical form may have left this Earth, his love, energy, presence, and legacy will live on forever in the many lives that he touched. Our loss truly is heaven’s gain.
Art’s services will be held at the church he called home for the past 60 years, First Lutheran Church (2740 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida) on Monday February 6, 2023.
