Wayne was born in St. Catharines, attended Hamilton Institute of Technology and moved to Toronto as a young man to begin his career as a CSR at IBM and raise his family. He was an active supporter of both his children's activities and sports, including coaching and managing his son's hockey and soccer teams and also teaching them a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, sailing, target shooting and skiing to name but a few. An avid athlete, he participated in the many clubs and activities that IBM offered, including being a long-standing member of their bowling league and gun club which led to being involved in target shooting sports for well over 30 years as an athlete, organizer, coach and manager and major official at various levels of competition including club, provincial, national, Ontario Provincial Games, Canada Winter Games, Metro League and the annual Canadian Airgun Grand Prix matches. He also was a long-standing executive member of the Salerno Devil's Lake Cottager's Association and belonged to a jolly motley crew of wonderful friends simply called The Bridge Club. He will be always remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, colleague, mentor, friend and "cool Dad" to many and whose greatest passion in life was helping others. He is so very proud of his very talented and athletic grandkids and all of their sporting and life achievements.
He will be resting at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home located at 4115 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough with visitation on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 12 noon. The family wishes to thank the caring staff and doctors of The Scarborough Hospital and the Oncology Clinics both there and at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their care. If you wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or The Shooting Federation of Canada in lieu of flowers, or the charity of your choosing.
He leaves us rich in memories and we will miss his special brand of humour and his signature laughter.
