June Mary Smith

Born on September 3, 1936, June was nurtured by the unwavering love and devotion of her parents, Leighton Wynne Davies and Rita Dorthea (née O’Brien). Their family was made whole with the arrival of her younger brother, Francis Thomas Davies, whom she adored.

June’s professional journey began as a Navy reserve, instilling in her a deep sense of purpose and determination that guided her throughout life. She later excelled in sales and played pivotal roles in various entrepreneurial ventures. After a long and dedicated career with The Hudson Bay Company, she transitioned into retirement, devoting herself to volunteer work at Legion Branch 11. Above all, her greatest joy and fulfillment came from working with children, a passion she cherished deeply.

June formed lifelong friendships that she held close to her heart. As the matriarch of her family, she nurtured relationships far and wide, always welcoming others with warmth, kindness, and an open heart. Quick with a hug and a gentle word, she carried herself with grace and an unshakable spirit. Those who knew her felt the depth of her love, her joy for life, and her infectious laughter.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Doug, with whom she shared 65 years of unwavering love; her children: Kevin (Cathy) of Brampton, Wendy (Pete) Burrows of Kansas, and Karen Sorensen of Calgary; her beloved grandchildren: Tyler (Leanne), Cody (Chelsea), Savannah, and Serena; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Jade, Benjamin, Jacob, and Ava.

Though she will be deeply missed, June would want to be remembered not for the sorrow of her passing, but for the light, laughter, and joy she brought into the lives of others.

A church service will be held at St. Thomas More parish (2234 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough) on July 5th at 11 AM, followed by a celebration of life at Branch 258 (305 Morrish Road, Scarborough) from 12:30-3:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the Diabetes Association, or the Boundless School, would be appreciated.
