John is reunited in heaven with his cherished wife Elizabeth Anne Courneya (nee Peters). Loving father of Ronald (Anna), Heather, Gary, Glenn, Adele and Chris. Poppa will be missed by grandchildren Alexandra, Marsha, Scott, James (Hope), Sharon (Mike), Michael, Jessica and Heather and great grandchildren Theadore, Cloud, Darian, Josette and Harlee. Dear brother to Eileen Lafrance. He was predeceased by sister Doris Courneya.
John was born in Campbellford, where he spent his formative years watching his father, the local barber, practicing his trade. Later in life he would apply the skills he learned from watching his father to the chagrin of his young toddlers. After moving to Toronto, John met a charming and beautiful young lady from PEI, Elizabeth (Betty), at a church dance. They married and embarked on a life together of almost 70 years; a deep love nurtured between them that grew over the years. John and Betty travelled the world together and enjoyed every minute. Providing for his growing family was important to John. He worked hard and eventually opened his successful financial planning firm. In doing this, he imparted valuable life lessons to his children and they in turn are passing the lessons to the next generation. John was a sportsman who enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the hunt camp. John shared this time with his sons and with his camp buddies of more than 30 years. John also loved to fish – anywhere – lakes, rivers, oceans – wherever the fish were. He never threw back the first fish caught as it was bad luck to do so. His love of fishing was passed on to his children and grandchildren. On the quieter side, John was an avid reader of science fiction. John also had a deep spiritual side and was committed to his church.
John will be remembered by his family and friends both near and far. Forever in our hearts, we love you Dad, Poppa, Great Poppa, John.
