With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Grace Whyte on July 16, 2023. Predeceased by her loving husband Wallace and her son Brian. Proud mother to Mark (Susan), Paul (Karen) and David. Adoring grandmother to Sarah (George), Krista (Sam), Emily (Tim), and Laura (Aaron) and great-grandmother to Charlotte, Madelyn, Gabriel, and Zayn. Grace will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all her family and friends.
Born 1928, February 6th in Portadown County, Armagh, Ireland. Grace came to Canada as a baby with her parents Joseph Cathcart and Florence Mary Jane Morris. Predeceased by brother Thomas and sister Ruth (McLean). Grace’s father was a minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, as they lived in several areas in the Atlantic provinces. She attended public school in Louisbourg, Cape Breton. In 1942 her family moved to Bobcaygeon. After graduating, she began nurse training at Ross Memorial Hospital.
Grace married Wallace in 1952. Grace served with Wallace in their ministry in New Brunswick where their four sons were born. In 1969 the family moved to West Hill – now Scarborough, Ontario, where they served at Melville Presbyterian Church until 1997.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Melville Presbyterian Church, 70 Old Kingston Road, Scarborough on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 p.m. For those who are unable to attend the service in person, a livestream will be done. Please contact Melville Presbyterian Church directly to obtain the link to the livestream.
A private burial will take place.
