I haven't met Mamiji for over 20 years, but my memories of her, when she visited India last with Derrick, are very vivid. She was a very lovely and vivacious lady, with always a smile on her face! It was a pleasure to spend time with her! Now, with her going away, a beautiful era has come to an end. My deepest condolences to Munno, Bobby, Derrick and the entire family. I will miss Mamiji and always remember her beauty and grace!  God be with her.

Dolly Roy was a strong was a strong-minded woman who always used to put a smile on everyone's faces. Dolly would participate in majority of the programs on the floor including Bingo, Trivia, and reading programs which were her favourites. She loved her Cheetos and Doritos from her bingo prizes and definitely would eat both bags in one sitting.  Dolly would also answer all the intellectual questions which should her intelligence.  She is going to be missed by the staff members and other residents. It is sad to know that she is not here with us anymore, but we know that she is in a better place, resting peacefully.

Being your granddaughter has been the greatest blessing. While I don’t remember much from when I was younger, it always made me so happy to go visit and create memories with you as I grew older. I am grateful that you are at peace now, and I am thankful to know that you will always be with me.

For the most part, we go through life with egocentric ignorance, mistakenly perceiving that time affects only ourselves. This belief is reinforced by small realizations that happen as the years go by: That movie came out how long ago? People born in 2000 can legally drink? I’ve had that t-shirt for how long? The bubble of these mundane epiphanies expands until it bursts and we are faced with the reality of time and how it affects everyone, including those we love. 

Finally, time ran out for my grandmother. In spite of the long life she lived, it seems like only yesterday I was a small child and we were playing endless rounds of card games, or she was rubbing my head as I fell asleep on her lap. Despite her seemingly indestructible constitution - having survived nearly every illness you can imagine, including COVID - even she couldn’t outlast the inexorable passage of time, making it to 96 years. 

Grandma, I love you. I miss you. I will remember the kindness and joy you never failed to bring, in addition to the many sweets you snuck me. Also, the hot chilies didn’t work - I swear more now than I did then. I wish you had the opportunity to hear me play and to see the man I’ve become. I hope you’d be proud.

The circle of life became more clear to me when you saw your great granddaughter (Sophie) prior to your passing. I’m happy you got to experience tears of joy with your loved ones for one last time. Rest In Peace! Brandon

My aunt Dolly met her future husband at my parent's house. She visited my mother on a short trip from Calcutta and he was staying over with my dad, his friend. They fell in love and in spite of advice from family, they got married in 1949 at St. Thonas's Anglican Church in Dacca, the new capital of East Pakistan
