Sandra Smith Bennett

February 28, 1932 – June 3, 2022
Obituary of Sandra Smith Bennett
IN THE CARE OF

Doane Beal & Ames

Sandra Smith Bennett (90) of West Harwich, MA died peacefully in her sleep June 3, 2022.

She is predeceased by her son Jeffrey J. Bennett and her husband of 57 years, John H. Bennett. She is survived by her children, David M. Bennett (Susan) of Hamden, CT and Elizbeth Bennett Andersen (John) of Wilmette, IL., eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sister Janet Fleet, and cousin Sarah Caldwell.

Sandra was raised in South Hadley, MA and went on to earn both a B.S. in elementary education and M.A. in counseling at Framingham State College. Her 36 year teaching career profoundly impacted students in the South Hadley, Northampton, Southboro (Fay School, Woodward School, Neary School ), and Harwich school systems. It was not uncommon for students to remain in contact with her throughout her 90 years.

Her love of children went beyond the classroom. Using her creativity, Sandra, an avid knitter, donated thousands of hats to children in need across the country. Her sense of humor and whimsical poetry brought smiles to every person in her life. Her life was defined by unconditional love for family, friends, students and for all those who benefited from her compassion and advocacy.

As per Sandra’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
