Richard T. (“Dick”) Shea, 95 of Harwich Port, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022. Dick was born on September 29, 1926 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Timothy and Theresa Shea. He graduated from Worcester Academy. Dick served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Upon his discharge, Dick attended and graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Dick married the love of his life, Frances P. Murphy, in 1951. Fran passed away in December 2021.
Dick with his brothers Bill and Bob, along with their father, Tim, owned several pharmacies in Worcester including Hastings Pharmacy and Shea Drug. Dick sold Hastings Pharmacy and worked at CVS in Worcester and then in Harwich Port. Dick and Fran moved to Harwich Port in 1988. Dick was active in his parish, Holy Trinity, serving as a collector, the Knights of Columbus and was also involved with the Romeos (Retired Old Men Eating Out). After retiring from CVS Dick became “the number 1 Ranger” at Ocean Edge in Brewster. During the winters He also worked as a “pool boy” also at Ocean Edge. In their retirement years Dick and Fran spent winters in Naples.
Dick was happiest when surrounded by family. Dick is predeceased by his siblings Helen, Bill, Ruth, Grace and Robert. Dick is survived by his sister, Alice Hanlon, of New Jersey and sister in law Sarah Healy. He leaves daughter-in-law Shelly, sons Daniel (Mary Ellen), Richard and Francis (Carolyn) of Harwich Port, John (Sara) of Worcester and daughter Christina (Dan) Schadt of Brewster. He leaves grandchildren Trevor, Quinn, Ryan, Katie (Jay) Bailey, Aislinn (Stephen), Owen, Peter, Erin, Meghan, Danny, Caitlin, Callie and Cristin. He leaves great grandchildren Mason, Declan, Brynn and Jack.
The family thanks Judy O’Neil, Valeria, Roberta, Terry, Ava and hospice nurses Jamie, Lucy, Barbara and Laurie, who professionally and warmly cared for Dick during his last six months. He was able to live in his home and died peacefully with dignity and respect.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, West Harwich, at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held immediately prior to the funeral beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Dick’s honor to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
